Picked up 2 Penn Spinfisher V 8500 today for a good deal. Was going to replace 2 Penn Fierce II 6000's with them. They are new never used with boxes just had 20lb mono put on them but they seem to heavy and to big. What should I do with them? Never used anything that big before.

They'd probably work great for surf fishing for big drum, or off a boat but definetely too heavy for the pier unless you go to florida and want to tangle with some medium sized sharks
I've got one I use on my boat and have on the pier as backup and a just-in-case cobia rod or for floating a bait on a balloon. I agree they're too heavy for all day with a bait, but nice to have.
Sell them and get some 5500s
How much to take them off your hands? Or just one?
Not really looking to sale them, just got them and was looking at the best use. Will keep you in mind if I decide to sale them.
What would be the best all around rod for these reels pier, boat, and surf?
I move mine around depending on where I am & what I am doing, but if just one, I would take my 7 ft. Ugly Stick Tiger. That's a little short for the pier and a little light for vertical jigging, but you don't want much more length on a boat.Quote:
