Well that's good news. Too bad we're leaving Sunday morning. Sitting on the point at ft.morgan right now and absolutely nothing being caught. Did catch the past two days and missed a run of Jack's that came through yesterday around noon.
I hope the pier staff read this forum and see this message. Thanks for your prompt actions to restore the pier to use. The pictures I saw indicate that a significant amount of work was needed to accomplish this. There are people that plan their vacations months ahead of time and come to Gulf Shores primarily to fish on this pier. I am sure that many of them are reading this forum page with a sigh of relief. Thanks again......I have fished piers all around the country but prefer this one over all.

Gulf State Park Pier Reopens After Hurricane Nate
Meaher fishing pier remains closed
With only minor repairs remaining, the Gulf State Park Fishing and Education Pier is scheduled to reopen Saturday, October 14, 2017. The pier had been closed due to damage received during Hurricane Nate, which made landfall in southeast Louisiana and again near Biloxi, Miss., on Saturday, October 7, 2017.
During the storm, several wooden panels were blown out along the pier’s walkway. The pier also sustained ruptured water lines and electrical damage. Some sections of the pier’s handrail lighting system remain to be repaired.
“Fortunately, the damaged caused by Hurricane Nate was not as bad as it could have been,” said Greg Lein, Alabama State Parks Director. “Thanks to repair crews and our staff we can reopen the pier on Saturday so that visitors can enjoy their planned vacations.”
The current pier was designed with removable panels that allow the force of the wind and water to be dispersed. This prevents damage to the pilings and caps on the current pier that replaced the one destroyed during Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
The fishing pier at Meaher State Park was also damaged by Hurricane Nate. That pier remains closed until crews can complete repairs and ensure it is safe for public use.

I’ve been down here on the beach at a little Lagoon Passsince 10 this morning. We’re using live shrimp, fish bites, squid and some cut bait. The fishing is very slow! I’ve seen a few whiting and pinfish caught and that’s it. Hopefully the bite will pickup with low tide.
Welcome to the Forum , cophunter., appreciate the report. Will be there tomorrow afternoon, out at Ft. Morgan. You can skip the squid as bait in the surf, as it only adds stink to a day on the beach, and little catfish is all it will catch. I would like to say, you have a curious handle.
Thank goodness the pier is open again. It has been so many days since I've been fishing that I'm starting to get real froggy and need to hop around on the octi to wear it off.
