Just received the latest Alabama State Parks E-News letter. In this letter there's a section regarding a survey regarding the GSPP. Some rather interesting questions are being asked in the survey. In case you don't receive the E-News Letter; here's the link: www.alabamadnr.az1.qualtrics.com.
Most everybody filled it out a couple weeks ago. State is still waiting on the sharks to obey the no sharks around the pier signs but they forgot sharks can't read.

Youre right about the DNR vs the Sharks. Anyway, put my two cents in. I wonder if Hunter Guy ever reads these surveys. Or for that matter even cares.
I'm still trying to figure out why it is when deer at Oak Mountain became overpopulated they opened the Park to Hunters to thin the herds. What is the difference between Deer and Sharks.

Well, to repeat myself, I think that something called "bureaucratic inertia" comes into play here. The risk they must take is that if they lift the ban and someone gets bit then the bite will be blamed on lifting the ban and whoever lifted it gets in a lot of trouble, probably has a ruined career.
That plus just the "optics" of a bunch of 5 foot blacktips and spinners being on the deck for the tourists to see. Maybe we need to suggest an "immediate removal" rule for sharks.
If someone gets bit under the current circumstance then all they have to say is that someone else long ago put it in place and perhaps it should be reviewed.

I wonder what the policy is with other piers on the North Gulf Coast regarding sharks? Fished Navarre Pier the other day on the way home from a trip and I don't recall seeing a cleaning station there. Does OWB or PCB piers have cleaning stations? Just curious...
None have cleaning areas(Florida), one reason I like Gulf Shores....the old pier don't remember any type shark problem....the other piers you can kill the sharks if big enough, so no resident sharks
That's because Florida does not consider a fish "landed" until it reaches shore.
Fish MUST be in whole condition until then, however they may be eviscerated.
I have never understood the logic of allowing folkses on the GSPPier to clean their fish and then keep fishing.
Once a fish has been rendered it is impossible to determine if it was a legal fish.
