Just a quick how to on how to catch this spring pompano bottom fishing:
My favorite rig for pompano, and also anything else in the surf from the pier is a:
=> Slide your sinker onto your main line, next slide a small red or orange bead (this is to prevent the sinker from knocking onto your swivel or tearing up your knot). Then tie a really small BLACK swivel to your main line.
=>Cut a piece of 12 lb. mono (preferably 20 lb. fluorocarbon) to a length of around 15" and tie it to your swivel. Next, slide on a small yellow float (usually found on cheap pompano rigs at Wally world or you can purchase yellow/green pill floats at J & M for cheap $$) and then a red or an orange bead. Finally, tie your hook (preferably a 1/0 Gold Kahle hook or a 1/0 Lazer sharp circle hook) Any hook will do, your preference. Lastly, trim all the excess line from the knots. And viola!!
=> Bait with fresh dead or live shrimp and cast right in the trough before the first bar starts. And don't set the rod down, hold onto to it and pay attention and you can feel when something hits. Then set the hook and call someone with a net to bring in your delicious catch!! haha
