I heard 'more than a few' grumblings from participants and non-participants from impromptu pier tournaments in the past.
Most seemed to disapprove of the increase in agressive (or is it possessive) behavior by some individuals because of the added incentive of fishing for money and/or prizes.
Others were concerned of a lack of concise rules, and the governing of the contests which led to 'butthurtedness', words exchanged, children trampled, etc.
IMHO it always seemed like a lot of headaches.
Maybe worth the effort for a worthy cause and with proper planning, and of course permission from the proper authorities.

Well, I certainly didn't want to drum up any negativity regarding the subject. I simply have never been involved with the organization of a tournament or picnic as far as the pier goes and therefore didn't know the ins and outs...
Just figured it would be something nice to do.

fish for the love of fishing, competition can corrupt the passion. My philosophy anyhow.
