Anyone got a suggestion for a decent king rod in the 100$ range that will match up to the new Mitchell 298?

39 views and not a suggestion in sight. Lol. The reel is about 20 oz, and its on a cheapo berkley 8' big game rod currently. Its a little like slinging your lures with a 2x4. I can cast it all day, but I definitely feel it. Hoping to find something lighter with more feel.
LOL, I have an old 8' Berkley Big Game rod. I now only use it to soak sand fleas; 2x4 is a good description.
I am kind of partial to the Ugly Stick BWS 1100 series rods. I have never King fished but I have dealt with sharks and some horse Reds (30lb+) and they held up fine. Still light enough to chunk lures too.
I'm not familiar with the Mitchell 298, but I asked a similar question about a Penn 5000 series reel back in June. If I got the link figured out the thread from that question is below.

J&M......is your place to go......they have great custom shelve rods for a little more then that......you won't be disappointed
Yep, just take the reel into J&M and match it to a rod.
Carl and ironman, if there were a J&M's in Oklahoma I'd do just that. I don't want to wait on my next trip to use the rod and reel. I'll be using it for stripers as soon as I get it.
Hoping to find something 7'6" to 8' in a 2 piece for travel ease. Primarily for throwing lures, but occasionally drifting a CIG/ly.
Ugly stik from BassPro?
I have found some true treasures (fishing rod &reels ) here local......garage sales and flea market
Even craigs list
I have 2 Catfish Ugly Stik's (2 piece) with Penn Fierce II 6000LL's for my King setup's. The flexilibilty of these rods are great and they are tough. I have had several customs rods that were for bigger game fish (King's) and they have just not made the cut, either broke, too stiff, or one piece. The 2 rods and reels in the pic caught 8 King's this past week with no problem.
Ford guy, I mainly use live bait (LY's, pin fish, and etc.) and don't have any problems casting.
My son has one he bought from walmart in Destin. it is a Tsunami 8 '. it flings cigar minnows a country mile. 59 bucks!
I just bought the Ugly Stik Model BWS110080 about 2 weeks ago. It's like the rod that Pier#r mentioned, but has a slightly longer foregrip and butt. It's medium action, but I hope it's stiff enough for kings. I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. Somebody please tell me some good things about it!
Shakespeare BWS 1100 80 Ugly Stik Bigwater Spinning Rod
A Tica would be suitable for the job and around that price range, but getting to handle one could be a question in OK. Tsunami also works, but could have same issue of access to inspect.
Which models of tsunami or tica would you recommend? Would the 8' airwave make a decent pier king rod?
I was looking through my rods the other day and I found a cabelas whuppin stick in 7'2" rated 15-40 lb and in a 2 piece. Anyone have any experience with these rods?
I picked it up a year ago for 15$ at half price... Mostly because it seemed like a bargain.
Glass rod so I'm thinking it should be soft enough for flinging live bait and cigs, heavy but not ugly stik heavy. Cabelas claims its "nearly indestructible"...
