The problem you will run into is that depending on what kind of lures you are throwing, the whippy rod will give you less action on the lure. Like a gotcha or looney jig for instance, they are heavy sinking lures and if you have a slower action rod, it will take a lot more force to make the lure work properly. If you are throwing lipped lures, then the rod would work well. Just my two cenys, no expert by any means. Personally, I like faster action rods, especially for any kind lure chucking I plan on doing.
