I bought a couple of these to try out.
I buy 30 or so every year and throw them away or give it away at the end of the day. During the day I just wrap the weight around the handle of my reel.

I have one of these....they are OK and if you bid right you can get one for a decent price .....still like a spinning rod for the casting away from the pier with a sabiki ....but Gulf Shores seems straight down for bait is good enough
I attach the top swivel of the sabiki to an old shower curtain ring and drop the weighted end into a 6' piece of PVC pipe for transport and when not in use. I can put the bait rod in a rod holder next to the PVC and drop the sabiki into the pipe while it is attached to the bait rod.
I mostly use a ribbon rig unless I want sardines or hardtails.
I only spent a couple minutes looking but I gotta go; what is a ribbon rig?
A 2-3' section of monofiliment net with a red ribbon threaded through it, swivel at the top and a weight at the bottom. LYs peck at the red ribbon and get caught in the net and you pull them up.
You can also make your own gold hook rigs, just buy a box of #8 or #10 gold bream hooks and tied them on 6# test using short dropper loops. Lot cheaper than buying them. Feel free to attached a little red yarn with super glue if you want to get fancy.
Around here we use a slightly different version with a section of mono netting, 6-8" wide and 2-3' long, with a red ribbon running down the middle.

I have tied a lot of size 10-18 flies and jigs for trout fishing. Don't think any are red, but would they likely work? I do have red, yellow, etc maribou that I could tie that small.
