I have two boys hooked on pier fishing. What is a good set up to find them? I want something for specks and flounder mainly. The zeal Mart models barely made it through this trip.

You shopped at the wrong store.....J&M can fill all your needs
Penn Fierce combo in the 3 or 4000 size with a 6'6 or 7' rod costs under a $100. Buy once and be done or keep buying cheep stuff over and over and have more money invested while having nothing to show for it.
You definitely don't need to spend a fortune to get a decent med. spinning outfit for whiting, spec, slots, reds, Spanish, etc...
J&M can set you up nicely and they are a locally owned operation that has about as good customer service as you can find in the business.
Bass Pro also has saltwater series reels and rods that you can put together for less than $100. Don't overlook the Uglie Stik rods too.
Remember to rinse your rods & reels with freshwater as you leave the pier too.
Go to J&M, tell them what you want to catch, where you want to fish - and how much you want to spend. They will do the rest. No crazy up-sell pressure, just great folks that know fishing. Have them spool the reels with line before you leave too!
Rinse them every day, wash when you get home - and dry before storing. They will be ready to go next trip.
