Hello fellow anglers. I'm a Muskie guide in Middle Tennessee, but want to learn how to catch fish from the beach at gulf shores. Will be there the second week in September. Any tips from you guys would certainly be appreciated. May also try to pier fish, but mostly fish the beach while the wife gets the sun tan on. Thanks for any help!

pleasure island charter is the one ive used for years.we go 5 or 6 times a year.always catch lots of fish.lee bridges in smithville tn also charters on the jennie lee in the summer months.hope this helps
The best tip for pier and surf fishing is to hire pier #er. Shoot him a pm.
There is a great beach access area at the pier and the pier has nice restrooms and a snack-drink area. I would bring the wife with me and let her soak up some sun while you fish.

An awful lot depends on the water temp that time of year. If it's still high, your chances go down---remember, that's the peak of hurricane season, but if the water is starting to cool off, you have a shot at redfish, pompano, whiting, etc.
I'll let those who surf fish more than I do win that muskie trip, but I wish you good luck and maybe I'll meet you at the pier. Remember that you aren't deep sea fishing and don't need very heavy tackle---no stumps for the fish to wrap you around in the surf, so you can let your drag do the work and have more fun with lighter tackle. It's not hard to whip a 20# bull red on 10# test as long as there aren't any other folks to tangle with.

September is a great time to catch rays in gulf shores, the weather is usually dry, baring a hurricane, but fishing can be tricky. The water temp can still be very warm, which prevents the migration of fish. The migration usually starts after a couple of nice cold fronts have gone through the area. Hiring pier # is your best bet. A carolina rig with live or fresh dead works well. I would not bring your muskee reels to surf fish. The salt and sand are real tough on fresh water reels. To pier fish its not as big of an issue. You can catch kings spanish reds flounder speck from the pier.
