I'll be down in a few weeks to fish the pier and already have a Shimano Saros 2500F that holds 200 yards of 6lb mono and weighs 9.9 oz but I am looking for a decent shallows rod to pair it with for catching pomps, specks, flounder or Spanish. Considering an ugly stik or BPS inshore extreme but not sure what would pair best with this reel. Not trying to break the bank since I am in grad school. If your interested in a custom stop by sometime. I live in Montgomery and build a few inshore rods from time to time.
Get a Shimano clarus for that. Color will match and it is a great quality rod and lightweight for around $70. I have a few of them of various sizes, and find them most versatile.
you could always stay simple and get an ugly stick. i put a shimano spirex on my inshore ugly stick and it works great
so is Medium/light too light or should I stick with a medium action? I was thinking maybe a 7'6 ML
ML action is no way too light for 6#
The rod rating should say something like 4-10 or 6 - 12 #line and be about 7 feet.
Not crazy about the Ugly Stix as ML though. They are a bit 'whippy'.
You want a fast or extra fast taper so the rod has 'backbone' but a 'soft tip'.
The BPS - IE rods are rated much heavier than 6# (more like 10-20# line).

I have the 7'2" and the 9' (for beach fishing), but the 6'9" would be an excellent MedLt inshore rod IMHO ;-)
