Fresh water rinse should be done after each use.....if not done, it might be an issue now
IMHO a freshwater 'flush' would be the worse possible way to treat them prior to longterm storage...
Yes, strip the line off (it may well degrade anyway) and wipe the inside of the spool with Reel magic or salt emulsifier and lubricate (with reel oil or 3-n-1) the line roller, bail joints, handle and shaft under the spool (and lube any bearings you can easily reach).
Wipe away any sand or water you see with a cloth rag or paper towel.
Then spray Reel magic around the outside of the reel and wipe away excess.
Store indoors if possible and take it off the rod (treat the rod guides and reel seat similarly.
That should be all needed to keep them in tiptop shape for next time, unless the reels were dunked into saltwater during use?

Line is relatively cheap. Better to strip it off than chance corrosion or a weak spot the you get to the coast next time.
Also if you put the spool back on make sure there is no tension (drag) on the spool.
