Storm"s a-comin'
Looks like that area of disturbed weather down SE of Yucatan may bring us some lumpy weather about the middle of the week. None of the weather sources I watch make any firm predictions about it, but maybe it will blow in some good water and improve our fishing just before the August Awfuls take over.
I have to take partial responsibility for the recent bad fishing. After that great day last Saturday, I was overcome with unwarrented optimism and made up spare king leaders and sharpened two knives. That's all it took for the fishing gods to start dumping crap on our heads. I'm sorry. I should have known better. Now it's gonna rain and blow---maybe that'll make 'em bite.

I'm no meteorologist, but this is a strange looking storm. The GFS model has it starting out as a low over the Carolinas and moving southwest over us until it gets stronger over south Louisiana/GoM.
The model shows us getting strong north winds from the left side of the low until it gets west of us and builds stronger south winds.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

FWIW, the GFS now shows the low moving offshore south of Apalachicola and then strengthening and reversing back to the NE. According to this run we just get brisk W to N winds and scattered rain. Stronger winds and rain in the Big Bend down to Tampa.
At least the water won't get too stirred up if it works this way. Maybe the low will turn the fish on even without the south wind. We do get some south winds Saturday night into Sunday as the low moves north.
Here's a site with a more user friendly view of the GFS (drag the bar under the map to see the forecast).

Well, I'm not going to keep posting every time the computer model changes, but now the GFS is saying the center of the thing is going to go ashore in Mississippi and we will get the brunt of it. Lord knows what it will say next, but we just need to be semi-ready like always.

At this point (before a system forms) it is especially best just to focus on the 5 day marine forecast...
