Surf fishing in feburary
Sorry I posted this in the wrong forum but was planning on fishing Monday either at the pass on either jetty or inbetween thier and the big pier or off mobile street wandering what everybody thought was hoping to catch a variety but really want reds

In the past I have frequently caught redfish from the jetty in winter (incidental to targeting sheepshead with live shrimp).
Recently redfish have been a common bycatch for surffishers just using dead shrimp (incidental to targeting pompano and whiting).

We caught some whiting off Mobile St. yesterday but no Reds. It was really tough surf fishing in the wind.

Honestly, I am not sure Tom. But your speculation has merit as recent rains would have brought an influx of nutrients into eastern LL and a subsequent increase in macroscopic life feeding on that...
Rain/Red minnows shortage this...
