Thanksgiving Weekend advice

If this is the wrong forum, apologies. I've never been to the gulf before, but I'll be in town Thanksgiving weekend to cross another state off my goal of running a half marathon in each. Since I have some free time, I'm bringing some gear and hoping to wet a line. I'll obviously check in with a bait store when I get to town, but want to start planning. What is my best prospect that time of year for a tight line accessible by foot, doesn't matter the species? What tackle should I bring/need? The gear I'll have is a Penn 440ss on a 7 foot medium light rod, a Penn 6500 on a 7 foot medium heavy rod and a 9 foot surf rod. Thanks in advance for the help and tight lines!

Everything that you could ever want to know has been discussed in previous conversations. You should check out "What's Biting, When" and dated fishing reports from previous years. I love that time of year! Target whiting and croakers - same rig (Carolina, with a small hook and small piece of fresh-dead shrimp) with the medium-light outfit. Weather rules and that's what determines which species are still "in". If you're surf fishing (instead of pier fishing) you may do some good with a chunk of cut mullet for redfish with the surf rod. You have plenty of time to read up on how/where to fish that time of year utilizing the search box.

It depends very much on the weather/water temps. We (eight guys) loaded a boat with kings in late November back when the limit was 4 - and caught a lot more.

That might have been '98, which was a very warm year, but it happens.
