I have a 9ft rod that I bought at Half Hitch in Navarre, and I have a Penn 7500 spinning reel with 17lb test on it. Would that be a good set up for King fishing on Gulf Shores pier. I also have some treble hooks and a spool of AFW leader wire.

Should be fine
x2. The best wire size is 27 to 38lb single or 30lb multi strand, hooks in the 4,2,or 1 size and the smallest stainless swivels you can find,#12 or 14.
Now all you need is a mini patrol submarine to escort your hooked king through the sharks.
Maybe thread your line through a piece of 8" PVC so that you pull your fish into the pipe then pull the pipe to the pier.
Casting might be a little tricky.
Edit: Cherry Bomb depth charges might discourage the rascals. Not to be deployed until a king is hooked lest you discourage the bite.
