The role of the the Department of Conservation as is stated in the Code of Alabama is under Secton 9 ,Article 1 ,General Provisions,Section 9-2-4 Powers and duties as to seafoods, etc. line (b) The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources may by order duly made and published prescribe the manner of taking or catching ,the time when and designate the places from which seafoods may be or may not be taken or caught during certain periods of the year,or entirely,AS IT MAY DEEM TO BE FOR THE BEST INTEREST OF THE SEAFOOD INDUSTRY. I made this point last year during the oil spill closing that the Depart.of Con. was not interested in the sports fishermen, and they are still not.I think that this language in the Code is the thing that needs to change to take the mandate off the industry and put it on the [conservation of the resource] for all of us to enjoy. Not to be reserved by the Department to be exploited by those who are benefiting from that exploitation; that by the way has been made possible by those in other states that have made those resources available to everyone.
We; who pier fish have been sinlged out in the latest regulations in a way, that because they were so shoddily and lazily put together*( that the regulations are punitive and renders the fishing pier unfishable as written; with anything other than artifical bait ;)but because of this,I beleave that at can be corrected.
Those of you who are going to Montgomery in Feb.on the 4th,I would like to know who and how many to organize the data and so we are all on the same page. Now that the holidays are about over and with only 5 week left we need to get it together.PM or e-mail me if your are going.I have gotten some help from the print media and TV people have expressed interest in our problem but with out people there is no story.Again less get it together.pm or e-mail .

Thanks for the feed back. There are some others that have said they are going to make there trip as well.I spoke to a member of the Gulf Shores City Council, and he couldn't beleave that they would do something like this.He said that this something that he feels is of interest to the City and CVB; that he would speak to Mayor and Herb Malone, because we don't want people having to take fish back to the condos to clean and have them throwing fish guts and bait down the garbage disposals or into the dumpters.
He said ;that if those you can't go to Montgomery;that they needed to write and send letters and e-mails to both the Citys of Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach, addressed to the Mayors, and to the CVB ,to Herb Malone. Those of you who are outside our area;you will have more weight that those of us who live here;YOU ARE WHAT THE PIER IS ALL ABOUT;IT WAS BUILT FOR YOU;LET THEM HEAR WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO DISPOSE OF UNUSED BAIT AND FISH PARTS AT THE PIER.
