West Of Perdido Pass

I’ve been surf fishing near the condos west of perdido pass for the past two days and cannot seem to catch anything besides small whiting. Other than one decent one they have all been very small. I have been using fish bites and bull minnows carolina rigged around troughs and sandbars. Nothing has come on the bull minnows. Is there anything I’m doing wrong because normally this time of year I catch flounder, ladyfish, and all sorts of stuff but nothing of the sort has come.

Are you just fishing the same small stretch of beach, or have you tried roaming around to locate a more productive area?

It doesn't sound like you are really doing anything wrong.
The current sandbar configuration in that area just may not be very conducive to catching what isn't there.
About the only thing you can do there now is keep changing baits (shrimp, sandflea or ghost shrimp) and put your bait farther out to cover the area as thoroughly as possible...

Thanks, I think I’m going to go out and see how the fishing is tonight with some shrimp.

For what it's worth, the sandbar in that area has been pretty featureless for quite some time. No real cuts in the bar, deep holes or "points" close to the beach. The back of the bar is out of casting range for the most part. I would try the docks at GSSR or Sea Oats at night or fish in Little Lagoon Pass itself with bull minnows or finger mullet in the daytime. There can be a brief but really good speck bite just after first light until sunrise. I'm really shocked that you aren't catching slot reds on sandfleas in the surf around the pass. If you are dead set against fishing the pier a day trip down toward Mobile Street or no name road may be the ticket. Good luck!

No Name Road is still closed for reconstruction but Ft. Morgan has better productive from the cannon down to the Point. I caught a 17" flounder in that area yesterday on the fall8ng tide.
