1940 Rodeo
My great uncle, Gus Gauthier, and his brother Peewee ran 3 or 4 charter boats out of Cameron, LA from the 30's, to early 60's. My brother sent me this pic.
Screw it. Let's ride.

Was hoping you'd tell me what they are. Tarpon?

Obviously catch and release wasn't much in vogue back in those days.

Looks like tarpon to me . Ive seen some old dauphin island pictures similar . I think back in the 50's tarpon was the money fish ,where kings are today in most fishing rodeo's.

What did they do with them? Fertilize the garden?

Thinking about it, I wonder if that's not the total haul for the whole rodeo and each participant took their turn getting their picture taken. Hard to imagine 2 guys catching that many tarpon in one or two days. But could be - definitely more fish back in the day than now.

Good tip Tom! These two big fellas were screaming like girls when that happened to them last week... LOL
A Spadefish safety tip!
