"Ya just can't make this stuff up!"

A rod I left on the dock of our rental (Mobile Bay side) either blew off or washed off Sunday night. I decided to search the sandy bottom for it by dragging a treble hook across the area. After about 45 minutes of nothing, I snagged something. Then the "snag" began to swim off! Whatever it was snapped my 30lb test like sewing thread (had the drag cranked down for dragging bottom).



Not even fishing and catch "the one that got away" on a bare hook!



So bright me decide to put a strip of fish bites on another treble hook. Double duty; drag bottom AND fish. An hour later I had caught and released about a dozen black drum, all about 16-22 inches long.



Guess the one that got away was their 'big brother'..............

I never did find that #*%&#&% fishing rod.......:mad:

Small black drum are excellent. I have to admit that I've never kept a large black drum. I've always netted them and released them, even as a kid. So I can't personally attest one way or the other about larger drum being "wormy". Most larger speckled trout have spaghetti worms. I just cut those areas out. I imagine that you could do that with any fish.

True enough Eym. What's considered "small/large" sorry Midwesterner here!

Big ones, yes. The really big ones (20+ pounds) are really inedible (IMO).

But 12-24" ones are fantastic eating.
