Yo Zuri and Xrap

Its time to start building for next year! I am going to build a rod this winter just to throw those 5/8 oz Yo Zuri and 1.5 oz Xraps. I have done my homework and read just about every rod blank thread on here. Whats everyones favorite rod blank to cast in the wind. What guides are you using? I really like the K guides but i cant figure out the sizes to get and they get expensive quickly. What do yall think about the plate reel seats? And should i go all glass, glass composite, or just straight graphite and i know actions go a long ways also. I have so many questions. Thanks a lot.

I recently asked this question to another member on the forum and he suggested a MHX SU1087F for lures. Never used this blank but it's worth a look.

Wow. MHX blank that was a curve ball. Was not expecting anyone to post MHX. Since last night I have looked at seeker and rain shadow blanks. My main thing is I know the ratings of rods differ by company. I would hate to get a medium and it be to stiff and a medium light and it not have the back bone to put the brakes on a king right at the pier.

I have built rods for 40+ years, I went from G L Loomis, they quit making blanks when Shimano bought them out, to St. Croix, to MHX blanks out of Mudhole. They are a good company and they make a good blank. Mudhole says that they make their own blank, I wonder???? Not many companies in the US make blanks anymore. Some of the St. Croix blanks are made in Mexico now, most of them are made in Park Falls WI. They make a good blank, but the MHX is as good and cheaper. I have sent 2 of the MHXs in for replacement and all that I had to pay was the shipping down to them. NO PROBLEMS. I would go with the MHX without questions. I would help you out but I build all fresh water rods, but I will do what I can. Let me know. You can get all your information from their website.

What is the deal with the Slidell, La. boys and smuggling deer? A 1.5 M dollar fine? 52 deer are not worth that much, there has to be more to the story.

That MHX blank is light as a feather and they have a lifetime warranty. Throwing lures all day means I'm looking at blank weights and at 3.71oz that blank with minimal building can be a dream to cast all day

I have two MHX rod blanks that are for bass fishing and they are great. What I am not sure about is are they actually going to have the action and parabolic bend to chunk a 5/8 yo zuri a mile in the wind. There was a guy early this summer that had a 8 ft medium terez and he was out casting everyone till the old school guys showed up with their custom rods and started bombing lures off the pier. I have a 8ft MH terez as a cobia rod. They are great for just getting to job done but I want to be hanging with the big dogs. Lol

I use a Rainshadow 1027 for throwing #12 and #14 x-raps it has plenty of ass and the tip is great for throwing lures its a little heavier than the MHX but still a good choice.

Does anyone have the MHX blank that can vouch for this?

I built one of those blanks for myself for a trip to Gulf Shores a few years back. Used it to through big lures and spoons. Hooked a king (sharked) a BIG jack and a bunch of good sized spanish before selling it to lighten the load on my trip back. I personally really liked the blank. Its stiff with a fast tip and that's what I like in a lure rod. The walls of the blank are thin but I put it to the test really laying into it and I wouldn't hesitate to build another. The color isn't black its more of a grey/black blank
