White with red head, black and silver and blue and silver are my three favorites
:shark
Do you recommend the floating ,sinking ,or deep diver with the long lip???
Why yo zuri ? Don't limit yourself to that because a lot of other ppl are throwing them, I like different brands of lipped baits a lot more,

Perhaps he meant 'Yozurri type plugs'?
I am constantly on the lookout for REASONABLY AFFORDABLE plugs to add to my arenal.
Colors: I prefer the 'natural suite', but like redhead/white body and chartuese for cloudy or low light conditions...
What ever color is on the clearance aisle, is my favorite color.
I'm with BigDee on those three color combos for Yozuri.
I also like Bomber, Rapala and Manns, and for big spoons I prefer L&J's 4" Krocodiles
Good mix of top water & shallow/mid diving,
hey man, if you're guna fish for king, get the bass pro brand, thats all i get for king, i'd get a more natural looking color like white stomach (on all of the good ones) and a dark blue or a grayish black or mabe a dark green back, i like a small (or shallow) lip, best get a floating one. hopes this helps, but unless your heart is really set on it, dont spend $15 or $20 on a yozuri, the bass pro brands are like $10, i wish i could give you an exact model but i cant.
I bought a couple of the bass pro suspending baits last year. Pescador looked at it and asked, "did you change the hooks out?" I hadn't. When a school of bluefish came through a while later I understood. Not even a real big fish and both hooks were toast. Good action though.
ya, definatly change the hooks out, sorry, forgot to mention that, ESPECIALLY the tuna poppers, good baits, crapy hooks, of coarse it's easy to change them out

Absolutely. VMC silver finished 4x -- Academy sells in 25 count box for four bucks at their Little Rock store.

Red head is the bomb!! :headbang:
I have no confidence in white body w / red head, just doesn't produce like others for me
I like em but theyre weird some days they work some days they dont. Are you goin to the pier this weekend peaches?
i caught a flounder on a white with red head yozuri at the pass one time so im a TRUE BELIEVER in the redhead yo yo

You can get an idea of the size of the lure in this pic. I've caught a huge variety on that model: kings, spanish, jacks, redfish, several flavors of shark, bonita, blues , trout, and had a huge tarpon on for about 5 minutes.

I remember that day Weagel. Great to see you posting. Looks like the 5.25 inch model. Floating or sinking or do you remember?
Rich, it's the sinking model. It measures 4 1/2" stamped "YO-ZURI .S" on the back. You can get pretty good distance with it on 12lb mono.
I'm going to be down in Pensacola in 3 weeks (last week of February), so I'm trolling the forums pretty regular to see what's hitting and where.
Thanks Weagle. I may be in pcola myself in a few days. If so I will give you an update.
How do you guys spool your reels for the lures? Braid, mon, or mixture of braid with mon on top? What lb test? Is 15 lb braid with 14-16 lb mon on top enought?
15-17 # mono should do you good for the king and spanish you can go to j&m's and they will spool your reel for you for a small fee. and the good line is momoi at least thats what i like
FWIW Mac, my lure throwing rig is spooled with 12# mono. Like Kingkiller said, I use the Momoi illusion because it is thinner than most, stronger than most, and cast better than anything I've tried. That puts around 375 yards on my 50 class okumo reel. It's handled everything including kings, reds, jacks, bonito, and sharks. I also bought a three pound spool of YoZuri hybrid last year in 12# on an auction site. I tried it...very strong and very durable, but it doesn't cast quite as well as the Momoi, but then it was less than half the price.
i think the momoi line has thinner diameter line than most and its strong really strong its the only line i use.
I appreciate the info. I will check it out at J&M. Thanks.
For casting artificials, I'm spooling plain old Trilene Big Game 12# on an older Zebco Cardinal 7 and a Penn 710. I'm using a 7' or 7 1/2' medium action Ugly Stick or Allstar. Pretty low budget compared to a lot of the nice tackle I see on the pier, but it's held up well. Of course I'm a two or three time a year pier dweller, not an every other day hard core Pier Pounder.
