It doesn't have handles or a hinge, but the hook keeps the two halves pretty well aligned. Well enough that it doesn't take much adjustment to make it all perfect. Slow, but works well.
The head in the pic is made of wax. I made some real lead ones yesterday evening and powder coated them.
Looks good, I am sure you and the fish will like them....the fish don't need perfect
What's the weight?
It is close to half ounce, but have not weighed one yet. Will have to take one to work to use that small range scale.
You can see I got too much powder paint on a couple but think they will work.
Got to be quick in and out with the powder paint and fluff it after a few unless using air system....30 minutes at 350 degrees.....I got my toaster oven at a local thrift shop for the final baking (curing) $5.00
I heat with a heat gun and not over heat, just enough for the paint to fully stick, then back over the heat till glossy (not long or close)
I just altered my spear heads for the sloped nose.....they should work one way or the other.
Find a piece of wire to clean the hook eye holes right after dipping (tie wire) fits perfect
Some powder is tough to to put on thin enough. (harbor freight) I modified a pair of split ring pliers to pop the paint out of hook eyes that closed up during baking. Works like a charm.
Depending on what it cost in your buddies time and resources, there's probably a market for that mold as I haven't seen one for sale.
You are correct. The hotter the mold got, the better it worked and the more I wished it had handles. I am going to try two-part epoxy clay to fill out the deficient collars. Not sure it will work yet but that is what I am going to try. If that doesn't work, I think they will be fine for rubber bodies.
If someone wants to inquire about a mold, I can supply contact info, but I'm not looking to be involved in any transactions.
