Anyone around here do it or done it? I am thinking of doing it as I have issues going up and down inclines and long walks. I hate to admit this ailment is catching up to me but it takes a little longer each year and sometimes months to get to the end of the pier pulling a full cart.
I searched back 10 pages and did not see where anyone had posted so I thought I would post the question. If not I will go off the guys on Youtube directions.

What a great idea.....
Several years back I saw a motorized pier cart in a tackle store in Destin. My point is - this has been done, so you can do it too. I lacked the skill to do-it-myself.
I explored a "tug" approach with something like the powered dolly used to move boat trailers but it was overkill. My cheapo solution was a smaller cart, adding rod holders to one of those milk-crate sized folding carts with built in handle. I can stack a small cooler, tackle bucket (including folding Frabil net), and folding stool, plus 3-4 rods.
I saw a motorized cart running off two motorcycle batteries. It seemed to work pretty good. It was on YouTube. I figured he do so could I. It's just getting the parts and doing it.
Motor from a childs power wheels car/truck/etc and the battery that goes with it would work great. You could probably utilize the whole vehicle chassis without the body, add the cart to the chassis and rig up a hand switch to turn it on/off, instead of the foot pedal.
Allen529: I suggest that you look into using the powertrain off an old motorized wheelchair. They are extremely torquey and strong enough to carry an adult around. There was a time when I was interested in robotics and wanted to build a remote-control rover. Wheelchair suppliers often get in old wheelchairs on trade-in from medical insurance and they throw the old ones out. So, I went to a wheelchair dealer and asked if they had any old wheelchair motors. Not only did they give me several motors with drive trains, batteries/battery boxes and the controllers with joystick, but they gave me an old fully-functional wheel chair, as well. All free, just for the asking! It was literally a goldmine. Do a little looking around in your area. Asking is free and you might get lucky!

Just found another that just might be perfect fit to replace the caster front wheel and slip underneath , very thin battery/body ...... something to mess with anyway..... that dang beginning ramp from the parking lot plays heck on my shoulders ..... i could down size to make it easier, only really needing half the gear with the half pier to fish
I had been thinking about one for the same reasons as Allen529 has , The Pier cart company Fish-N-Mate had them in there lineup but when I called them and asked because I didn't see them on website anymore I was told they sold so few they dropped them , But I found a fella that does conversation , Saw his youtube video so I called him , His name is William Clardy,I I have his number if anyone was to talk to him , The price was 440.00 and I don't remember if you have to supply the cart or he does . I have been thinking about getting one of those Scooters that I see some the people were my Mother in law lives use to get around and putting rod holders and cooler rack on and use it that way .
I just looked at Anglers Fish-N-Mate's website and due to the Pandemic they have hardy any thing in stock so if you need a Cart you'll have to get a used one or find one in a Tackle shop if they have any

Someone actually had one last night at Fairhope pier. Don't know the guy, bu he said he used the Power Wheels method, I told him to get on this forum and talk about it.
Ran the wires to a squeeze-trigger type controller, attached to the pull handle. Looked like a very basic setup.
If I remember correctly from a number of years back a guy at Navarre had a motorized cart
I think he and his wife (ex wife) owned a Golden Corral Restaurant
Anyone know who that may be?

An electric auger drive would be more popular on most piers than a gas or propane auger.Quote:

Jiffy makes electric motor auger assemblies but I do not know if they would have the stamina to hold a charge all day. As for torque they are golden tho and would make a good pier cart motor. But at what $$?

Bill, if or when you get yours done with the scooter set up let me know so I can see what you did please. Ive looked at them and seen the possibilities but that most of them are hub drives I am not so confident to setting them up without blowing up one of those lithium batteries.

I just bought a self-propelled electric lawnmower. I don't know what it would cost to get your hands on such a drive system, but it sure seems like it would work well on a pier. It has a variable speed drive system and the batteries are small and light.

Find Joe Trainer on Facebook. This Viet Nam Vet builds great electric beach or pier carts that run on a cordless drill battery. He’s located in Pace, FL just north of P’cola.
He sell you an entire cart or power up your cart. He’ll work with you how ever he can.
I built one out of power wheels toy car and an aluminum hitch tray, ( goes in your reciver) did not build the steering however , did not build in reverse. Runs on 12vdc , has a DC solar charger. Put a speed control on it as it was too fast..
