Too much time to think up crazy rigs.

I’m so excited about coming down in May (hopefully) that I’ve been checking, cleaning and re-tying my tackle. I’ve also had too much time to think up crazy rigs. So, here’s my question, and y’all may think I really am crazy, but, do y’all think a Gotcha would work under a bubble rig?

I was thinking that, sometimes, it’s hard for me to work a Gotcha without getting it back to the rod too soon. So, if it were suspended, somehow, it might stay in the strike zone, and off the bottom, better.

Or, just tell me I really need to practice working a Gotcha. I may need to change my name on here after this one.

Imho a Gothca is too heavy to work and suspend properly under a bubble. Stick with small jigs or spoons that 'flutter' downward a foot or two during the pause.
The Gotcha works because it sinks quickly and has a lively side to side darting action. Placing something like a bubble in front of that only lessens its action.

Ive tried a variety of different things behind a bubble, and what I've found is that on the right day at the right time, almost any of them will work. I like using white, pink, or chartreuse crappie jigs, as well as colored tubing and a treble hook. I've used small spoons, and some if the small rebel minnow or rapala type lures with success too. To be completely transparent, the colored tubing has out produced any of the other stuff I've tried, but it's always fun for a novice like me to catch spanish on something made from pipe cleaners and tinsel that I've thrown together myself.

Glad to see I’m not alone into improvising and thinking out of the box (or bubble). Since nobody called me crazy or dumba$$, I guess I can retain my forum handle.

Worked correctly, the gotcha can kind of suspend....notice i said kinda. When you can see the side to side action and it is covering several feet doing it, you can pause it, let it sink, and then work the side to side again without a lot of forward progress. You can do this as u get close to the pier again and again, if a spanish, hardtail, king or cobia doesnt interrupt your effort. Lots of ways to work them, and they remain dangerous at all times.

I find a small spoon (MasterCast) behind a bubble produces best, especially on sunny or bright cloudy days. They have plenty of action, even on an level retrieve. On a real cloudy day I go to a piece of tubing. I buy them in bulk.

I get as many strikes on a small Clark Spoon, but fewer hookups, I assume it's because of treble hook vs. single.

If we get this flu crap over with, we will be down the first week of May. I’d like to get a few buck tails and pompano jigs. I would look to your expertise to say which are best. Thanks
