Hats and Sunscreen, Every Day You're Outside!

Just a reminder/warning to those who come down to the beach - Clouds do not block UV rays, so apply sunscreen on cloudy days, too! And wear a hat! Reapply the sunscreen (I use SPF 50 on arms and legs and SPF 100 on my face, nose, ears, back of my neck.) often if you are outside during the middle of the day, whether it's sunny or cloudy.

The WORST sunburns I've ever seen - the "beach tomato" variety, were on cloudy days by people who went to sleep in the comfortable breeze and evidently didn't use sunscreen. I'm sure that they didn't sleep all that much that night!

And another note, most shirts lose quite a bit of their protecting properties when wet so you can actually get sunburned through a wet shirt.

The sun is no joke folks. It can cause a lot of damage to your skin. I know because when I was young and living in Florida I was in the sun everyday barefoot and shirtless. Never gave it a thought. Well many years later I am going to a Dermatologist every six months for a full body check and every time, they remove precancerous lesions from my body. I have had Basil cell cancer removed from my forehead and Squamous cell cancer which can kill you removed from my arms. So as stated, use that sunscreen, wear a wide brim hat and long sleeves if your going to be in the sun for any length of time. It may not be cool, but it will save you a lot of worry and expenses when you get older.

Dress for success, quality outdoor clothing brands often offer UPF fabrics. Every little bit helps.
Believe it or not, a long sleeve shirt with good ventilation will keep you cooler than a short sleeve, especially when combined with a wide brimmed hat.

Next up, maybe we can discuss controlling chafing in those nether regions... Then again maybe not.

sure we can....a friend I work with was bragging the other day about his briefs, underarnour , said they were the most comfortable he has ever worn, kinda pricey at 20 for 1, but he swears by them

I always wear a light ventilated long sleeve shirt the Columbia blood n guts, a good hat and occassionally one of them bright A$$ colored face mask things .. i always feel "just right" temp wise when i'm fishing.. i cant wear shorts as someone may mistake my legs for a toothpick or small branch. so light weight pants for me...
I would think commando would work better than them $20 undies....

The dreaded prickly heats. That would be a million dollar idea if someone could fix that! BTW saltwater does not help

Lots of talc and/or corn starch.
The Anti Monkey Butt powder is pretty good stuff.
Don't ever make the mistake of putting Gold Bond medicated powder on your sweaty & raw nards, that menthol will make a brave man wanna scream.
You can pay $$$ for the sports anti-chafing balms, but for a cheaper alternative try a regular antiperspirant.

Powders can clog pores and cause pimples and boils. Best thing I found is pure Oragano oil. Leaves you smelling like Pizza, but that's a good thing. :-)

Yes, Mr. Cleland, commando works perfectly well in the heat. Granpa wore a long sleeve shirt and bib coveralls in the heat, always seemed cool and unbothered.

At the time, I was informed I was the youngest person at my dermatologist office to have skin cancer at 27. Right on the right cheek on my face. Was worried surgery was going to mess up my face. Thank God for a good surgeon, looks like a never had anything done aside from the scar. Anyway, makes for a good story at the bar, kidding. Be safe out there and take care of your body, you only get one.
