Hypothermia and falling out of a boat

Today I had me a little scare. While a buddy and myself were bass fishing a private lake behind a locked gate, I stood up to stretch my legs and fell out of the boat, and almost sunk it trying to get back in. Approximately 40 minutes later we were finally back to the dock and loaded back in the truck.

It only takes a moment for your circumstance to change, make sure someone knows where you are and can get to you in case of an emergency. I have never been more glad to have a friend in the boat. Had I been alone it could have turned out way differently.

Dizzy spells resulted in me falling out of my bass boat twice in the last winter I fished out of it. The trick to getting out is work your way to the back of the boat and use the motor foot and control rods to pull out. I was alone both times. The last time I broke a couple of ribs pulling myself over into the boat. I now fish out of a pontoon boat.
