That is a horrible track.

Re: TD #5, storm whatever...
With any luck it won't be around through the day...
Quote:
500 AM AST THU AUG 02 2012
THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEPRESSION HAS GENERALLY
DIMINISHED DURING THE LAST SEVERAL HOURS...WITH DEEP CONVECTION NOW
CONFINED TO THE SOUTH OF THE LOW-LEVEL CENTER. ALTHOUGH DVORAK
T-NUMBERS HAVE DECREASED TO 1.5 AND 1.0 FROM TAFB AND SAB...THE
INITIAL INTENSITY IS HELD AT 30 KT. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE
DEPRESSION COULD DEGENERATE INTO A REMNANT LOW OR TROPICAL WAVE
LATER TODAY IF THE CURRENT WEAKENING TREND CONTINUES.
Let's hope! :headbang:

I still want to launch my kayak in the gulf during a named storm just so I can say I did it.

Define the word during and pinpoint the location of in the gulf of both you and the storm. Then I'll tell you if that is a crazy idea or not. Back in my younger days, one of my brothers and I went body surfing 24 hours ahead of a tropical storm. We were only experiencing tropical depression force winds. It was fun at first, but it got physically taxing quick. After just a few waves we decided that we had enough. Knowing what I from that experience, I wouldn't have done it in the first place.

Re: TD #5, storm whatever...
^^^ During Hurricane Opal, I went to Fairhope Pier and threw my castnet (bag net). First cast, the net didnt reach the water. The wind kept it in the air. 2nd cast I aimed low and hard and caught two mullet. Then I left cause it was a little scary.

Re: TD #5, storm whatever...
[size=12pt][font=comic sans ms]Glad you don’t plan to do something crazy like throwing a net in the bay from a pier; going out in the Gulf in your kayak during a storm has got to be a lot smarter.

Re: TD #5, storm whatever...
bubba you are an absolute idiot to do that
alone... its always safer to paddle in pairs... and i'v always wanted to do the same
-
Re: TD #5, storm whatever...
When they close gulf to swimmers, they leave it open for surfers, so technically we can launch. Just have to get past that first breaker.
-
Re: TD #5, storm whatever...
[size=12pt][font=comic sans ms] Well, I guess this will have to have photographic documentation, if it is not pouring rain at the launch time. Let me know and I will be there to photograph the last known sighting of Bubba and Peaches. :o
Actually I am praying we don’t get a storm in the Gulf of any significance.

The video title is highly misleading. The description states it was near the Tampa. Irene was a category 1 storm strafing the Outer Banks in North Carolina about the time these guys were hucking it up. Cool video, but they may as well claimed to be leading the Normandy Evasion on their jet skis.

Re: TD #5, storm whatever...
Naw, Ernesto is headed for Yucatan and the other one will stay out in the Atlantic. Hopefully, we'll never get more than a big swell if Ernesto gets into the western Gulf. Bubba could then go out and get lost between those big storm swells. It might even perk up the fishing.
Has anybody ever been fishing during the eye of a tropical event? Does anybody want to?

Re: TD #5, storm whatever...
We use to wind sail in the yard with a 4x4 sheet of plywood with a rope handle...We would find the best side of the house to run out into the wind when it was gusting then hang on and skii across the wet grass until the plywood was ripped from our hand..It was all fun and games until I was hit in the back of the head with a 100 mph pine needle and it stuck...Ouch!...LOL.
