4000 series reel?
I have been following the site for a few months and have learned a lot and want to say thank you to everyone. I am looking to purchase a couple of 4000 series reels but need some advise. I would prefer Shimano but but I am open to suggestions. They would be used for inshore fishing as well as the pier. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks ironman 172, I have heard mixed reviews about penn but I own a Sargus 6000 and love it.
pier#r, i would like to stay under $100 a reel. What do you suggest?

I would vouch for the battle. I own two Sargus 8000s and a battle 3000. Love them all and have never had an issue with any of them. About to add a battle 6000 to my arsenal as well. Shimano makes great reels as well but they don't have great line capacity imho.

You can't go wrong with a battle

Thanks guys, I appreciate everyone's input. Battle seems to be the way to go, and based on my experience with the Sargus I will be more than pleased with the next step up. Any recomendations on an affordable 6'6"-7' medium action rod to pair them with?

I've got three Daiwa 4000's that I am about to begin a second campaign with. I love them. They are manual bails but absolutely scream the line back in when you need to have some speed. I cannot remember the price on them.

You can get a Battle 4000 with a 7' med action rod(BTL40001017S70) or the 3000 with the Med. Lt. 7' rod(BTL3000815S70) for $125 spooled up with 10 or 12lb Momoi Hi-Catch mono. That's a good deal being the reel sells for $99.95. The reason I brought up the 3000 is because it has a better action rod for most of the fishing we do on the pier. I put both combos, spooled with mono on our UPS scale and the 3000 came it at 1.10lbs and the 4000 is 1.25.I looked at our history on those two to see how well the rods held up and we only that three returned and sales were in the triple didgets.
