don't change it out till you need too, unless you put a whole lot of drag on it , it should serve you well....I just picked up one with a black spool and thought of selling it on here,it nice shape for its age, can't use all I have,and still learning to use the manual bail system and getting the line back on the roller.
make sure it has the HT100 carbon drags washers, if not I would suggest changing themBill..............
