Had hoped not to drill through the chest and make it unusable for anything else. Course, after having fish (hopefully) in it all week, not sure it will be fit for any other use.

Just drill the holes and make it your official fishing cooler. If you opt for putting the rod holders on the front you can put a piece of wood between the holder and cooler at the top and it will give you a little more head clearance. I am 5'8 and had no problem with head clearance.

Both of our poles are 2 piece, so clearance shouldn't be a problem if we break them down? I've just gone on a buying spree and now hubs is worried about how on earth we will get all this down to the water. I'm trying to better our chances of coming home with lots of frozen filets. If I don't stop reading here, and throwing more stuff in my cart at the online sporting good store, I won't have anything left to pay Pier#r for his services when we get there. I'm thinking he's going to be my ace in the hole :-)

I have a cube cooler and I put my rod holders on the front. I am 6 foot 1 and my rods don't hit me when I roll the cooler

Can't wait to meet pier#r and learn from him. Sept. seems a long way off.

I don't drill all the way thru. I use Sheetrock anchor and no problem yet.
