You didn't mention that they're probably the most versatile rig ever made. Oh, the stories that could be told.

Double drop pompano rig tied in 20-40lb mono is one of the most useful tools in the surf/pier fishing arsenal. Avoid the ones made of nylon coated wire, the crimps on them are inconsistent and wire isn't needed for pomps, whiting, drum etc.
