i had a ladyfish slip out of my hand and bury a hook in my finger one year in panama city. the nurse practitioner at the walk-in clinic deadened the finger, took a hypodermic needle and ran it down beside the hook, setting the hollow end on the barb. he then pulled both out at the same time. over and done in less than 10 seconds. when i commented that he had obviously done that before, he said he gets 3-5 of them a week that time of year. i told the wife that it might be worth the drive down from tennessee if i ever get another hook in me. and yes, it was a gotcha :D

Gotcha aren't the only lures with trebles ....all the crank baits I use have them, and that's what got me, and a tiny little cat fish on it....I now know why my Dad had 2 pairs of pliers in the boat....one to hold the fish(in it's mouth) and the other to take care of the hooks....and also a pair of cutters to cut the hook from the rest...I finally found someone to help hold the skin..... so I could push it through.... my wife wouldn't, and all but one guy at the marine repair shop didn't want to(weak stomachs) they all kep telling me to go to the hospital to get it cut out....2 weeks before I saw a fishing show about the same thing, and sure enough it worked....and finished the day fishing

I actually had a second hook from the treble starting in too, but never fully got past the bard so that one came out the way it went in....and the first and last that has happened ....I am tooled up now

caught two yesterday ....why worried about the skippies?

I don't know how in the h#ll a fish can strike one of those lures and not get hooked. Any time I get within three feet of one there's either blood shed or clothing torn---takes me ten minutes to get one out of my tackle box because it's always tangled up with something else, no matter how I have it packaged. They do catch fish, though, and I just came from J&M and they have a selection that boggles the mind.

sounds like someone needs a well organized bag, lol, I keep individual gotchas separate from each other and everything else, I like to look at it this way, they are like a one piece 12' surf rod being transported in a car, you wouldn't trade it for anything else when your fishing it, but transporting it is absolutly terrible!

10years ago when Dad and I really started fishing in GS he tried to grab a Spanish without a towel. We ended up at Foley getting the gotcha cutout of his finger. After that we ALWAYS have towels on our belts.

yea last year i had a run in with a blue and a yo zuri....you talk about pain when the fish is flopping around with the hook still in it and the hook also in me one of the worst days ive had on the pier...but didnt have to go to the hospital just got it yanked out by my dad

Man do ya'll remember the guy who hooked himself in the back of the head with one? That was gnarly! They really should come with a disclaimer. Its one scary damn walk between the mid to the end the hardtail fisherman are out there tossing 2 of them at once.

Hmm. A Alabama rig with 5 gotchas. Lol

skippies are a lot of fun for the kids.
