Well it was'nt a gotcha that got me but a crank bait. I was about 10 and had one burried in the back of my skull. My Dad and Uncle held me down and pulled it out. It was stuck in there pretty good

That sounds like an excellent hook removal method. Thanks for bringing it up, I would have never thought of that but will never forget it now that I am aware of it. If you're looking for an excuse to drive south it is almost worth sticking yourself with a hook, go for it. For me it warrants a trip to a feed store to get a large gauge hypo, so I'll be prepared for DIY hook removal.

Back to the question from the first post in this thread. IMO the shiny silver or shiny gold ones in the 1600 series are the best, not so much for their color, but the shape and weight. From my personal experience the one color that makes a difference when color matters is the gold head, gold body model #G1705GH.

Has anybody tried the Bass Pro knock-offs? This morning got kind of expensive the way the macks were going through my Gotchas. At the rate I was going, the one Spanish I caught figured in at about $50 per pound, filleted.

I haven't bought regular size bass pro brand, but I have used the Tsunami brand from walmart. I actually like the hooks better, but i think the tubes are slightly skinnier.

I use to always use wire with my gotcha's ....I think it was 12lb, but I think J&M has 10lb caught 75 fish on one lure before loosing and if changed out the wire maybe never would have lost it....it was only down to a couple strands of the 7 but wanted to see how long it would last....the last I would use 60lb leader but that is on a jig
