Where exactly? Literally at the pier?

Lterally at the pier where the snack bar is at
What live baits are they selling?
The guy running the shop said they WILL be carrying live shrimp and bull minnows.
The tanks are installed (in the back), but they are awaiting some kind of inspection ::)
Wonder how much "convenience markup" will be tacked on. I'm guessing at least 30-40% higher (maybe more). But that's just a WAG (wild a$$ guess)
I havent been there yet. I might go check their prices tomorrow.
They have some gorgeous St Croix Rod$ ;)
But I believe the big movers will be the "priced to go" combos though :fishing:

That and cigar minnows come August.
Hopefully generate plenty of income for the pier to continue to keep maintenance up. Ashame it took them this long. I wonder if they would finally put in some rod holders on the octi... Would be much less of a mess...
dont give them any stupid ideas. there is already enough crap to have to walk around and dodge while your fishing as it is. the bait shop has no affilliation with the pier. only money they get is the lease for the room.
these was on the PFF

They had me at bull minnows, I don't mind paying a little extra.
My appoligies for thinking that belong to the state. I hope they provide the googans with advice to be courtious of everyone else fishing. I would hate to witness regulars throwing folks pretty rods overboard because they left it on the rail while bottom fishing with sabiki rigs...
the prices were pretty good i asked how much they will be pricing shrimp and theysed 3.50 a dozen the yo-zuris were just a dollar more thean wallmart
Nobody can compete with wal mart only problem is wal mart selection sucks most of the time. I would rather give that extra dollar to support a local business and his or her family then some big corporate conglamaration"not sure on spelling"

Well said!
True dat!
PLUS you can't beat the service and spot-on advice you get from the local stores either.
:headbang: :fishing:
Another thing to remember about WalMart, sometimes the items are not "first" quality. They look similar but are made cheaper to satisfy the company's low price claim. As an example, WalMart sells some Demarini bats that are cheaper than you can buy elsewhere. In particular they sell a Demarini Bustos softball bat that looks just like the real thing to a casual observer, but it's $50 cheaper. However, it is a simple aluminum bat, not the hybrid composite/aluminum bat like the Bustos model sold at other stores.
Often wondered how many others items are made to WalMart specs ?
I now give them a big fat F for not being open. I went by there at 7:30 and they were closed. Come on. Its a 24 hour pier, and you are open for just a few of those hours? Forget that.
I AGREE WITH SNAKE.I SURE WOULD NOT MIND PAYING A LITTLE EXTRA TO GET THEM THERE AND YOU DONT HAVE THAT EXTRA WEIGHT UNTIL YOU GET UPPP THE HILL BUT CMMMON YOU HAVE TO BE OPEN BY 730!TAKE A LESSON FROM J A M !OPEN EARLY AND SELL LOTTTSSS OF BAIT ESPECIALLY TO GOOD FISHERMAN TRYING TO BE THE FIRST ONES THERE!I SURE THEY WILL LEARN AND MAYBE THEY HAVNT EVEN OPENED YET!

The pier tackle shop is open and their hours are 6AM to 6PM
I stopped in for a look-see and saw a nice and huge Daiwa spinning reel for the low, low price of only $1,400 and the dude said that was just what I need to fight Tarpon on the pier. I said it looked better suited to winch my truck out of the ditch if I got stuck. I walked out never to return.
While I was out on the pier there was a woman fishing with her young (12 ish) son. The boy asked me how to tie his Yo-Zuri to his line. I asked if he had a leader and he handed me a 8” plastic coated silver leader with a big bright and shinny swivel and a big snap to attach to the lure. I rigged him up with SevenStrand and showed him how to work the lure.
After a couple questions I discovered that the mom had given her son $20 to go get a drink. While at the pier house the boy went in the tackle shop and came back with the Yo-Zuri and the leader. HOLY CRAP!!!
As I was leaving I decided to go back in the store to express my disgust, but it was a little after 6 and the door was locked. Then James walked up and we were talking about the great off shore trip we had, when the door opened and three guys came out of the tackle shop area; well, I started telling them what I thought about selling a kid an expensive lure and the wrong rigging; it was obvious the kid was clueless. They looked at me like I was crazy and said they don’t work there and just arrived from out of town. ???
James had my back though, he explained to them that I had been out in the sun too long. :o
Oh well :-[
[/size]
Another 'dumb ole coot' out in the sun too long! :spank: ;) :D
Hopefully, they will get it together soon :-\
It is things like this that makes one thankful they can direct newcomers to an advisory tackle shop called J&M Tackle.
Additionally, if that isn't enough, they can be directed to hire Pier#er for guidance.
THAT'S FUNNY FIN ABOUT THAT TARPON ROD. THOSE FOLKS SHOULD CATER TO BOTH REGULARS AND TOURIST AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY GOING STRICTLY TOURIST!TOO MANY REGULARS THAT NEED AN OCCASIONAL THING FROM TIME TO TIME; MAINLY LIVELY ONES IF FISHING BEFORE OCTI BUT WITH PRICING AND INFO LIKE THAT THEY PROBABLY WANT DO SO WELL!

+1 !!!! well said
sounds like these folks are out to rake in the cash and don't care about helping people that need advice. i heard that mo sold his tackle shop a while back. bet he wishes his name weren't still on it. i think i will go to j and m on the way to the pier. they should name that one on the pier the tourist trap tackle shop

L O L
;D
ya know, I'm glad that you said something on here about that. My 12 year old would have done the same thing. Sounds like the only thing that we'll be buying out of there is bait.
live bait at the pier would be very convenient, when you run out of the bait you already got from J&M .....on your way there....just saying .....and running out of bait and needing more..... is a good thing....fish on :fishing:
You folks need to stop complainning about the new tackel shop, it is better than what we had, I got spooled a while back, bought some crapy line from the pier, but it was better than nothing, and I was still able to fish and enjoy my trip. The tackel shop is there to make money, not to please everyone. The out of towners are supporting the pier, not that hard to figure out. If it was not for the googans and tourist that irratate all of us, there would be no pier. Toursist is where the money is. So they are the reason we will have live bait, not the few locals that fish and will buy stuff every now and then, because like myself, which I wll make every attempt to help j and m tackel to pay back all the help they have given me. So be gald to what we do have and remember something is better than nothing. :poke:
i agree it is good to haqve bait there if ya run out of what you brought. i guess that pier tackle shop is just another tourist trap yhat the locals will avoid unles it is a emergecy like live bait
Live bait is the only thing I can imagine buying there and don't have a problem paying a convenience fee if I run out. All the other issues are really moot. I keep plenty of tackle on hand and always make a run to J&M when it starts to get low.
Tourist prices and tourist crap are what keep tourist towns alive.
Well Its a start maybe it will get better. Now if some one could take over the snack bar
As long as they are growing in some form.... The snack bar some like a great improvement... Wonder is that possible?

I am just glad they serve unsweet tea.

:spank:
heresy
Yeah, that explains a few things... ???
Who cares, sure they will do just fine right there. Tourists just want fast and easy and are willing to pay for it. Its a great improvement over the state owned gift shop, which was WAY overpriced and not much to buy anyways. Considering the price of gas, and all this could be a huge time and money saver for many. Not really needed to go in their yet but may be handy in the future.
will you make me a sandwich
