Hey outlawser two line trolleys are back in style and will soon be permitted from the t to just north of the octi Come on back and fish man!
i love it ....will fish one saturday ...trolley on!!
looks like I'll have to gear up for it....need to change my clamp's for that style rail vs the old.....something else to play with now....always something
YEA BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!! WWWWWOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Im with my bro kingkiller, will fish one Sunday! The rig that shall not be named will once again be named!!! :congratulatory::congratulatory::congratulatory::c ongratulatory:
After the number of times I have heard this, just to be told to take down my stuff and that I wasn't allowed to fish this way, I will wait until I hear it from a representative of the facility before I begin fishing this particular style again.
If it's true .. Don't be butt hurt when I stand beside one all day with a dead bait
Your not going to get much of a chance where you are headed.
Il be around for a little bit
I know of several locals (myself included) who sent in a very well worded letter explaining how trolly fishing is not only the best way to fish against strong wind and current, but also the best way for those who are handie-capped to fish for larger species.
Bubba that fight started long before you showed up on gulf shores pier.
What is two line trolley
its back i was told by the pier house
what is the standard spacing between the vertical wood along the rail, so I can make my rod holder clamps wide enough but not too wide to clamp on for easy attachment and removal ....thanks I advance
id say 2-3 inches but not exactly sure
I don't know where you guys are getting your info from, but you need to find a reliable source!
I just asked to ranger in charge of the pier if trolleys are OK north of the Octi and the response was:
Not just no, but NO, NO, NO!!!
Please don't post a HOT TOPIC on the forum unless you have confirmed it to be true!
this is just what i was told from the pier house when i called. and it doesent matter if there not allowed on the pier cause people are still going to fish them because its in there blood and many that still do it is cause thats all they fished on the old pier and thats all they know i dont see why its a problem there fishing like everybody else just in a diffrent way
Well if it's not true looks like fishing a two line trolly is going to be a little challenging. No one should have poked that sleeping bear. And to be honest I think some people are asking questions if they are allowed or not just to draw attention to those of us that are harmlessly fishing one in the draw up wind.
Garrett,
Your fighting a loosing battle with your words on the Internet. All your doing is drawing attention to a situation that is already a touchy subject between many of the members on this forum. The bad part about drawing attention to it is that it may not be the kind of attention that is wanted per say. I fish a trolley many years on the old pier, and have done it a few on the new one. I have quite a bit of money invested into my tackle for trolley fishing, but have come to the realization that I may never get to use it for its intended purpose again. The problem with trolley fishing isn't the ones who do as they are supposed to, but this who wander off and leave their rods unattended while they go to the bathroom or fish for flounder and Spanish in the other side of the pier. Your always going to have a few bad apples in every group. And don't try to bring up the whole fact of disability either, I have 3 herniated disks in my back, a half a hip on one side, as well as two bad knees, but that won't stop me from fishing. I want to see it back as bad as any of the other old school trolley fishermen, but not at the cost of confrontation and lost friendships over petty bullshit. I will stand behind the decision of the staff and management of the pier and abide by the rules they lay out for us because I am just glad to have a place the stand over the gulf and wet a line while I spend time with some of the people I consider my best friends. You can argue about this subject all day long like its been done the past 4 years, but its still not going to get anywhere. Be happy with what you have because I remember a good long period of time when it wasn't there, and how much I missed being there with my friends.
So, your solution is to just ignore the rules and do what you want to. I hope this isn’t your attitude about laws too; you are in for a rough ride down the road of life.
There is a formal effort underway to get the rule changed in Montgomery by due process. Defiance is not going to help the situation, but could derail it.
btw, you may want to get off the computer and pay attention in class.
well I will still change my rod holder's to match the wood of the new pier....and plenty of room for them to bring whether they get used or not,at least I will have them just in case....love that bait presentation on a windy and ripping current day....up wind naturally
still need a measurement from the out side of 2 vertical members....I am guessing 8in's ....4 between the wood and then 2in for each vertical wood post.....HELP someone
that way having this the rods can be removed easily and raised to let a angler with a fish on get by with not to much trouble
instead of bunging them to the rail that kinda makes it harder to remove quickly
FWIW I'd like to have the measurements that Ironman wants also. I probably don't get on the pier but 5-10 days a year, but I would like to have to option to run a trolley upwind if it is allowed, and he is right, if your rods can be moved fast it is better.
Need measurements outside 2 and between 2.
:deadhorse
I have no problem with trotlines north of the octi.
As Rhett Butler so aptly put it in Gone With The Wind, "Frankly my dear........"!
(Young ones Google it if you don't know) :abnormal:
The Sabiki Brigade meets the Trolley Troopers. Can I sell tickets?
<----had to google
i love snobbling, i love fishing a live bait, but i also like to fish a trolley every once in a while
sounds like someone is trying to start crap because they are still butt hurt.

The most violated rules on the pier are 5, 9 and 10 and nobody starts a thread about it on the forum. However, let someone type the word “Trolley” the thread goes viral here, but nobody here makes the rules. There is only one of the rules that has been changed since the pier opened and it took Montgomery about two years.
The only way to effect change is to contact someone with the ability to make it happen and present your case.
The general consensus here seems to be that trollies are fine as long as they are tended and not on the Octi. Some of my good friends like to fish trollies and are quite successful with the technique. Some folks can set up trollies and its all good, but other folks can set up a trolley and there are a few twits who go running to the pier house complaining about trolley fishing. Nobody that I know of has been told to take down their trolley unless there has been a complaint. What seems really strange is that the tourists don’t know what a trolley is, so the complaints must be from someone who fishes the pier enough to be familiar with the technique. And that’s all I have to say about that.
If trolley rigs are to be allowed, I envision they use of rod holders leading to yet another ban. If you kill something enough times eventually it will stay dead. I don't see the trolley issue having very many opportunities left before it is on a permanent do not disturb list.
Though I may not ever join the ranks of trolley anglers, I am supportive of the cause. I wish that an amicable solution is formulated to allow trolley rigs can be found. Clamping a rod holder to the railing would only serve to further build on the disdain that trolley rigs already has.
It just seems wrong to me to get a strike from a trolley rig, leave a set line in the water behind you, and expect everyone to clear the way for you to fight and land your fish. To me, a trolley rig says, "Hey, everybody, I don't care about you!" It would be fair to me if everyone else threw out a weighted line and let you fight your fish around it. When you yell, "Comin' down!", they can say, "We don't care about you, either."
I presume you imagine that only considerate, accomplished anglers will set out trolley rigs. Good luck with that.
I envision a handful of grumpy guys playin' cards and yellin' at people not to fish around their rigs. Once they attach a trolley rod to the rail, they think they own the spot. I like the idea of trolley rig fishing very much, if I just think of myself, and I have the only trolley. It just seems so obviously unfair and inconsiderate to everyone else. If you let a bunch of people do it, then you've got Jacksonville Pier. Sixteen stations. Stay away from the trolley rigs. Deal the cards. My humble opinion is, if you want to attach gear to the rail and leave a set line out, build your own pier.
I quit snobbling just a little early before sunset at PCB City Pier the other evening, because the shark fishermen had set out their baits. If I had gotten a twilight king, it could have gotten into their expensive set lines in the dim light and been a mess, like trolley fishing. I don't think trolley fishing can coexist well with free-lined baits. One style or the other will prevail. Good luck with it, whatever you decide to do.
Guess I'll leave the stuff at home and scrap the mod on the rod holders

I'm going to have to go with T-wagon all the way on this one . The rules are there for a reason . Everyone seems to get all bent out of shape when some of the other rules are broken or egnored but this one should be overlooked ??????
I've fished several piers where trolly sets were used and almost without exception that part of the pier was off limlts to tourist fisherpersons and God forbid you fish close to their sets . You guys may not like the idea of tourist on you turf ,but most likely their would not be a pier without them . Don't mean to step on any toes . Just saying .
