Other than Henry Hammerhead and his slightly smaller brother who were around a few years back, I don't remember too many sharks hooked on the pier that couldn't be brought in on the rods we use for kings & jacks. No need to anything bigger than a 8500 spinner or a 4/0 conventional.
My old Penn 309 rig I used for snapper would be ideal.

The only experience I've had with sharks are those I've had to pop off on the pier. Several were legal. If I was targeting them on the pier I would sure enough go heavier with my gear. Just sayin.Quote:

I think its alot more fun to fight him and wear him down than to just horse the fish in and club him on the deck.(kinda like ultralight fishing in the skinny water, more fun on light tackle)
We hooked 6-7 after midnight the day that last depression moved through. I took shelter at the T and left a pole out with a live LY on bottom. The baitfeed would start singing shortly after I sat down each time. Most of them were 4-5' I would guess and were rather easy to pull in, i'm guessing they are used to the 'eat'-pop off-'eat' again that the pier provides/

I believe "anticlimactic" is the best word to describe the whole affair.
