Shimano Spirex

Anyone happen to have any experience with these?

$20 less than most sites.

Thinking about getting it as my 9 yo first spincaster.

I've got a Battle II 4000 looking to sell for $50 be on the pier Friday and Saturday for the picnic. I've still got the Spirex 2500 use it for Smallmouth don't know how they hold up in salt.

Wish I could be there but I'm stuck in Chicagoland until my mid July trip down to see you guys.

I'm not a fan of rear drag reels for saltwater.
Seen too many of them 'eaten up with crosha' from the salty water dripping off the reel and into the drag components.
You can get the same features (casting trigger) for less $$ with a Syncopate ;-)

I got saltwater on the brain ;-)

I used a spirex a few years ago while fishing for walleye on the Brule in South Dakota. It worked well enough, but I didn't ask much of it. Rear drag reels just don't feel right to me, but that's just my opinion/preference.

I often picked up the Spirexes we had on display at Bass Pro.
That dual paddle handle is unique and gives it a little different 'feel'.
It is a relatively small handle, but that may be just right for a young angler.

The line retrieve rate is 32" for that size, and that might be a bit 'fast' for some applications (like worm fishing).
For comparison, the line retrieve rate for the 2500 Syncopate is 29".
So the Spirex is about 10% 'faster'.
Plus it features Shimano's ARB bearings.

I've had a few syncopates in 2500.. they were great reels.. all met early demise from abuse in the surf. Would buy them any time I catch em on sale. I got a 4000 size shimano(name eludes me, but its got a dark purple grey hue) on clearance for 19.99 2 trips ago.

doesn't really matter the choice though, just getting on the water with the family is the real deal...
