So how many people actually crab on the pier?

LOL! I'm talking about actual crabs, not what a local becomes when a googan gets in their way..... I have 2 Promar crab/crayfish traps as well as a hoop (pier net) I could use for this purpose. I wanted to try it last year when we were down but learned march isn't the best month. This year we will be around the Pier the end of April to the start of May. Any chance for crabs? Will I be outta place crabbing while others are fishing? Although I'll be doing my fair share of fishing also. (Not at the same time)

They really start showing up late summer. By September depending on water temps, from our experience, most females have released their egg sack(sponge) in the sand and can now get into the funnel trap entrance. I've seen ppl use hoop traps at night and have caught crabs. This photo was taken mid Sept.

Wire crab traps are not allowed on the pier.

So there's really no good chance for my time frame Snake? Thinking I could just let the wife and kid or two give it a try.

When it comes to any wild creature and their behavior (in this case crabs), two important words should be stricken from the vocabulary of those of us pursuing them; always and never. If you have gear that you feel might be used and enjoyed, regardless of how productive it may or not be, bring it.

I would bring it just in case. You never know, the crustacean gods might shine down on you. :)

BDL are you using the collapsible hoop crab traps or the wire funnel traps like mine in the photo? Because yes you can use the collapsible hoop net type but no wire traps on the pier. That photo I took were of crabs from little lagoon. Just trying to clarify things.

U will catch 9 billion more crabs over in the lake than u will at the he pier.
