Best rig:
=> 40 lb. mono leader (about 24" because as soon as I see a fray, I like to retie and I just trim off a little rather than rigging up again).
=> Uni to Uni knot from main line to leader. (i don't recommend a swivel, but if you like them, i go with a black really small 80 lb bill fisher swivel.)
=> My most successful lures are
- Yellow head gotcha (the smaller one) with shiny chrome body (Silver on sunny days and gold on cloudy days)
- White Looney jig or White/Chartreuse jig
- Bubble rig with a piece of small pink rubber sunglasses holder (from wally world) J & M has great pre rigged ones. or a pomano jig ( I absolutely love the bomber pink/ silver chrome head pompano jigs. They last forever.)
- Medium size shallow diver Yo-Zuri crystal minnow (match to the bait in water) Fairly pricey to loose though. ( I use 18" 7-strand 30 lb. wire leader with Yo-Zuris) Anything will come up on a YoYo.
- Last but not least, a Maribu Crappie Jig White tipped with a diamond shaped strip of shiny spanish belly. (this ones very cheap to use and very fun to fish, but you need really light tackle for it) I sometimes tandem rig these jigs.
