St. Croix Spinning Rod

I am thinking of trying a St. Croix MOJO spinning surf rod, 11 ft. Mostly for whatever is biting beyond the breakers, soaker bait.

Any opinions on this rod

If you are into building your own or having it built for you look at the RodGeeks blanks. Made and designed by the St Croix folks and some very nice blanks in their lineup. Colors are up to you, even two tone.
Batson also have some excellent blank products , their eternity 2 line is good. CUI blanks not to be ignored either,it can take a while to get them from New Zealand if its an uncommon spec you have for the blank. But they will build to your specs if you know what you want at that level.
Bear in mind all these are not 'bargain' lines.
Go to BPS or get an 'off the shelf custom' for bargains.

St. Croix is made near my cabin in Park Falls, Wisconsin and have some quality products. I use two 9' rods for Redfish and Kings and they hold up well. I've had them several years even though they are seconds from the factory. That being said, their MOJO line had been outsourced to Mexico. Not saying they are any poorer quality, just sayin!

I'm too cheap to own a high dollar rod, but if I were looking for a premium rod, St. Croix is my choice. I've looked into their rods and will eventually be getting one of their saltwater rods.

Mojos get good reviews.

Most of us never come near getting the maximum distance out of our gear because of technique issues, not lack of sheer muscle or lack of the best graphite, so practice over grass after watching some instructional videos will help get the most out of your investment.

what reel you puting on it? i picked up a boca 60 and thought it may match up pretty sweet on a 11' mojo spinning

I have 2 12' Mojo casting rods. They are rated up to 16oz and have a real strong back bone. Consider getting 12' foot - always better to have the ability to throw heavier weight if needed. I can throw 10oz plus bait with my 12 footers.

I don't have a lot of time in on surf fishing so I'm still learning; that said my curiosity has me on this one. Rather than having to go to 10 oz to hold your rig down wouldn't it be better to use a 4-6 oz spider weight?

I've never had to use more than 4 oz's in the surf. I've gone to 5 sometimes if fishing in the pass with a strong tide.
