The pier has a vested interest in enforcing an "underhand only rule" because, as it stands now, they are ignoring a very foreseeable, very preventable safety issue.
That said, all of you know ain't chit gonna change know matter how loud we bellow because it would require effort on behalf of the staff. They can't even keep toilet paper in the freakin' bathrooms or keep them close to clean for crying out loud
Y'all take your griping some place else. I lost my playground for a couple years due to Fredrick then again to Ivan. I'm just happy to have a pier I can take my kids and have a good time. Yes,I get a little frustrated with sabikis, dirty restrooms, dead fish, nasty rails, people not following their bait, trollies, bad food, people using the deck as a trash dump, braided line and the list goes on,but I've learned to deal with it. Try having it taken away from you for a few years a couple different times and y'all will appreciate it a little more. Back in the day,the main thing we dreamed of was a longer pier because the end of the old one was in 8' of water where the bathrooms are now.Y'all think about it....... The guy just wanted to thank a person for helping him out and you turned it into a train wreck.
that seems to happen a lot Mr. John, once again I find myself quoting James Hatfield "sad but true", glad to see some people do appreciate some things (that involves the pier and/or this forum) with out having to complain about them, and a thanks to Terryrweems for giving recognition where it was needed :)
MERICA!!!!!! Lol
Good perspective, John, and you are right. My apologies to OP for participating in the hijack
Has anyone tried to address the issue witht he Ala. State Park Commission in Montgomery, Ala. I feel if we all emailed or complained to the top dog, someone may do something about this issue. I will be the first to do it. Will let you all know of my results.
Not a big deal to me. John is right, a lot of things aren't perfect but enough rules. Anytime you get crowds of people together accidents will happen. It's happened to me with gotchas and snatch hooks, but I still love our pier. So, no big deal...Fshntime
I found this thread doing a search for underhanding sabikis, I cannot even fathom trying to underhand one of those and actually getting a catch. I completely understand this rule. Evey time I've been to any other pier, I cast them just to catch bonito for bait, yet witness massive quatities being caught and jus taken away. Does the underhnd cast actualy work wihout using a cannonball sized weight? I too have a harsh dislike for ose guys swinging 10 foot rigs with massive weights on it when a 2 ouncer on a 6 foot rig works just as well. I think it will be safe to say ill be rigging from shore or just buying bait. No need to get anyone upset at me sabiki slinging even though I use great caution with them.
If it is very crowed I cast everything underhanded. I can not stand the thought of accidentally hooking anyone, especially a child.
