How long to make it ?
2"-2 1/2" is what we do
Sometimes I go down to about 1 1/2 if the fish seem to be hitting and missing.
Thanks y'all!
As long as we're on the subject, what is the optimal length of the leader (distance between the bubble and the hook)?
Anyone ever try weighting the straw/treble so that it casts without the occasional tangle? I noticed that every so often when I cast the straw would tangle around the front of the bubble.
Yes, I have, it does not make much difference on the cast but I do like the action it gives. Have not noticed any better results with the fish.
To keep the tangles out just feather the line gently as the bubble approaches the water and it will make the straw lay out past the bubble without tangling. The problem causing the tangles is that the straw is following right behind the bubble (dragged behind). If you feather it too hard it will jerk around, but it does not take too much practice to get it right and make the habit.
I like a pretty long leader myself. I like it a little longer than most when the line starts getting frayed I can just cut a couple inches off and back fishing. Mine tends to be anywhere between 2-3 feet long.
Y'all pay attention to Robert, he knows what he's talking about. If DanS II and Fishntime add their wisdom, you'll know everything there is to know about bubbles except how to hold your mouth.
