Re: Best lure
My go-to set up for any pier, any time if I could only have one would be a 7 ft medium spinning rod, spinning reel with 12 lb mono and a Chrome/Chartreuse Gotcha plug. I can fish the entire water column from just under the surface to bouncing it off the bottom, Drop it straight down and jig, cast it against the wind, work it in strong current and cover a lot water quickly.
See you at the range Chuck.

Re: Best lure
Weagle,
You need to wear long pants while fishing, those legs will scare women and children off the pier.
See you today, I'm going to start shooting at 1000hrs.

Re: Best lure
Nice to see someone using one of the old Cardinals. I always liked those reels.

Re: Best lure
going to start making and tying some more jigs here soon, well once hunting season is over....kinda like the loonies....
there were a couple guys from Michigan that were making there own gotcha lures on the old pier out of arrow shafts..... made a mold for the lead head and added reflective tape for the color on the shaft....worked pretty good and only had (as I recall) like .25 a piece in them....I may try my hand at this, but would rather just throw a jig anymore....and seems a lot easier to make for me

I can't answer for him.....and they do look great....He lives in Missouri I think and visits once in a while like me....not all of us are fortunate to live on the gulf coast
I had saved that picture he posted from a while back for my own jig making....mainly the color(pink) and jig head pattern....trying to find some similar for the pomp jigs....I am still trying to learn and have something to do in my retirement years to prepare for the next trip to paradise :fishing: :headbang:

Re: Best lure
Thanks Bill for the compliments but I have to give the credit to Obie/Tiderider. I learned most of what I know about making jigs from him. Chuck, I haven't really tried to sell them. Work has me on the road and busy as hell right now so I don't have much extra time to mess with it. I usually leave the selling to the locals. Ben Arnold sells jigs and there are a lot more down there that can fix you up. I'll shoot you a pm if I get a break in the next month or so though. I usually end up giving more away than I sell while I'm down there. Looking forward to spending some time around Navarre mid April!

Re: Best lure
I am way late on this post but I don't have just one favorite lure. I use several different lures, what works one day might not work as well the next. But to answer your question, I use Yo-Zuris, Looney jigs and Spro jigs, all kinds of twitch baits like Rapalas, and last but not least, a Gotcha(silver with chartreuse head).
