This is something that has far greater potential reach than what people are currently lead to believe. While the thought of not having deer to hunt is very depressing, the potential for lateral (cross species) movement in prion diseases is very real. The more deer that contract cwd, tho more infectious prion build up there is in the environment and the more casual non hunting contact humans will have with it. That increased contact leads to increased risk of disease transmission. I'm sure people will scoff at my words, and wildlife agencies will never do what I suggest (so I'll stop short of actually suggesting it). The sad thing is that its very likely the beginning of the end for deer hunting, for a lot of people in a lot of areas.
