Dicks no longer selling firearms to under 21...

And immediately removing AR style guns from their stores and inventory.
This seems like a poor response to me. The Florida shooter could have just as easily used a browning or Remington semi auto traditional hunting rifle to the same effect and result. I don't own an AR and have no plans to, but this is like banning whiskey and continuing to promote and sell rum and vodka because someone drinking whiskey got behind the wheel and caused an accident.

So now, if you want to buy hunting firearms at dicks and you're under 21 you need to have mom and dad (or someone else) buy them for you.
I don't have a good solution to the problem, but this is a slippery slope and its not one that I want to slide down.

When folks have their emotional blinders on, all logic and common sense go out the window. Gun violence gets the headlines, but violence in general is the problem. The respect and value for human life has diminished (I believe there are several reasons why). We have a large population of mentally ill people living amongst us, some of whom aren't being treated and followed up with. Everyone seems to have forgotten the golden rule. Victim mentality is the norm. But as a believer, I feel that it all boils down to a sin/heart issue. Without a guiding moral principle, I am actually surprised it doesn't happen more often. My heart aches for the victims and their families. I, too, want something to be done, but knee-jerk reactions to emotional appeals is exactly what fordguy is alluding to. I wish I had an answer, but in the meantime, I will continue to get on my knees and pray.

I have no problem with Dick's making this business decision, its their company, they can choose to sell or not sell whatever they want, within legal guidelines of course.
And they have a right to express their views on gun laws. Just like the rest of us.
Will they lose some business? Probably. Will it deter me from shopping there? Nah.

The problem of mass shootings has many root causes, mental health of the shooter is very obviously the primary one.
But the availability of large capacity semi-auto firearms is also another major factor. How to address that within the confines of the 2nd Amendment is the problem.

A private company made an informed decision about which inventory they will carry in the future. If you want to buy one of those items, you go to another store that carries the item that you want. It's not a whole lot more complicated than that.

I may be stirring the pot, but could this approach be construed as constitutionally unenforceable, perhaps even illegal?
Otherwise what is to keep them (or ANY other business) from denying folks the same privilege of buying a product (or service) based on age.
Or denying any product or service to individuals or groups based on age, ethnicity, religion, race, hair color, amount of hair, number of teeth missing or whatever.
Isn't that the description of discrimination?

This isn't new... Dicks stopped selling ARs, AKs and 30rd mags years ago after Sandy Hook IIRC.
So did many other's, e.g. Walmart.

They have always been way overpriced and unwilling to compete on prices.
Many years ago I went in a Dicks once or twice, looked around and never went back.

Again - it's a private company and they can do what they want to. To Pier#r's point about "can they refuse to sell to 18 - 20 year olds?" if it's otherwise legal for them to buy a gun -- I don't know, but I think that he has a valid point on that one issue. If there's a challenge, it will come out in court and be settled there. I think that making a principled stand can be an admirable thing, even if you disagree with the stand. If they have policies that you don't like -- why not go somewhere else? It's not like there aren't other places to buy your guns if you're 19. They're saying - Go somewhere else. What's the problem?

They kept selling AR's Ak's in their sister store Field and Stream , Hypocrites are all they are , went to their website and used their online chat to tell them so , their keeping track of the number for their Headquarters , Don't care how small a slice of the pie 2A is worth the fight .
