Does anyone ever fill their bubbles with clear silicone? I've had people tell me that this extends bubble life sigificantly and it makes no difference if the seam cracks when its solid silicone instead of water.

I expect it'd work, but it seems like a lot of unnecessary expense and trouble. I wonder if I could just drill holes in some old Easter Eggs.

Speaking of Easter Eggs, I'm getting to the age where I can hide my own, but I'm getting a little worried---I hid 'em last year and then couldn't find either one.

Easily made with a wood latheBill..............

Years ago we used a piece of broom handle. Carved out and whittled down caught hundreds of stripers on them was called a plunker and fly rig.

I'm not quite 40 and I may have hidden my own eggs too. Not sure since I don't remember. On the topic of caulk- a tube of clear or colored silicone is about 2$ if you buy the cheap stuff. I bet I could fill at least 6 bubbles to 7/8 capacity, maybe more. I've never tried, but I bet the tip of the caulk tube will squirt it right in there. Will let you know as soon as I spend 2$ and find out. I'll be down to catch some Spanish at some point.

Seems to me filling the bubbles with silicone would workout then re-inserting the plastic tube would get messy along with your line that goes through it.

If I was going to fill one with silicone believe I would drill a hole big enough through the side and leave the shaft in but loose to let the air out then fill away and push the pin back in when full. The problem I see with this is you don't want the bubble full or it won't give you the splash you need to attract the fish.

Just fill them, plug the tip of the tube and push it through. Let the silicone dry/solidify and then use. No need to remove the plastic tube once silicone is solid though if you wanted to I suppose you could coat the tube with lithium grease or Vaseline before pushing it through the silicone filled bubble. Presumably all this would be done a few days before fishing. No messing with uncured caulk on the pier, or on your line.

Just do it. If you catch more or bigger spanish than everyone else, we'll all have silicone in our bubbles.
