Saw this today on Mexico Beach Marina's page. Interesting idea.. MB is a much smaller scale than Gulf Shores/OBA. Guessing they will make a daily trip offshore to dump fish heads, would keep their canal/beaches cleaned off. May also deter sharks from staying around.
Crab bait, chum, compost, fish meal, hog feed.... there have to be uses for the stuff.
There are uses for it. Much better to feed it to hogs or use in fertilizer production than to haul it anywhere and dump it.
Maybe somebody should contact Mexico Beach and see what they are doing.
For commercial feed it would have to be cooked and processed in some kind of permitted facility, but I would not be surprised to find out that there is somebody doing it, just like there are commercial operations that go around to restaurants and collect the used fryer oil.
if the pier charged people to park that goto the beach we could have one at the pier..i say 5 bucks to park and 4 more to fish and pier pass gets a sticker or parking pass for free
Can we not just donate the supplies to build our own? I'll gladly provide most of the lumber. If we could get permission from the state couldn't we just do a fund raiser to build this???

Well the state FLEECED the beach habitat for a hideous concrete and glass structure right next to the pier, you used to get in trouble just for messing with dunes, I guess that only applies to people like myself.Quote:

The location would allow for easy pickup of the carcasses and it's open enough to see anyone using it. A security camera would likely be needed to keep little pricks from vandalizing it though.
Or, as a first phase, they could keep the cleaning station where it is on the pier and charge people a buck to come on the pier and use it. Much lower sunk cost, all they would need is a freezer.
Keep in in mind that anything new the state does will involve a lot of paperwork and regulations and that means time and money.
