Ahhhh! My eyes! They hurt! Now who would want such hideous colors on a rod. Needs some crimson and white.

Honestly, I am not sure Tom. But your speculation has merit as recent rains would have brought an influx of nutrients into eastern LL and a subsequent increase in macroscopic life feeding on that...
