I have the 9' version and im happy with it I don't fish live bait much im normally chukin cigs but it slings the bigger Ly's and sardines well. Just ask me next time you see me and I will let you cast it.
Monk, were you at the pier last weekend or the one before, and did I talk to you about the rod?
I know I talked to someone who was using one at the pier.
I want something I can sling live baits, but also throw my yozuri's with. I'm wondering if the OA Cobia would work for that.
Chile I think we did talk about it . and as far as throwing yozuris its a no go but it slings a cobe jig a mile
Met up with Sammy at his new restaurant, Japanese Express across from Providence hospital... Nice to meet you Sammy!
Looks like most of the Japanese fast food (but healthy food) joints that are so prevalent back in SoCal.
Nice menu and decor, will definitely be back for lunch or dinner in the near future.
Anyways...
I bought his Offshore Angler/Offshore Extreme ~ Cobia Special, (8', 15-30#, 2-5oz) for a very fair price.
I put my 704z on it and it felt pretty good to me, tied an ounce of lead on it and gave it a cast, tossed it a good 40yards down the parking lot without even trying.
Feels like a stiff Medium with enough action in the tip to let is cast a medium/large live bait, it ought to cast any of our usual live baits with no problem, and yet have the backbone to horse Kings/Reds without any problem.
#r's assessment is dead-on and I'm looking forward to trying it out on the pier/surf.
It was nice to meet you and your son. Thanks for stopping by.
Yo barnburnerAU,
seeing your question I tried the 8' out in my back yard (flat ground with no wind) with a Yozuri-F, 4-3/8" - 3/8oz, and the best I could get was about 30yards. From the pier that would probably be 40 yards figuring the pier's height.
IMO it would NOT throw at all with any wind and a light lure, the action just doesn't have enough zing to it's sling.
Yes I do. It's Japanese-express.com Or j-e.co
